GySgt Contreras enlisted in the Marine Corps in 2006 and was designated an 0311 Rifleman.
In 2007 he was assigned to Marine Corps Security Force Regiment at Naval Weapons Station Yorktown, VA and served as a Marine Corps Security Force Guard with 3d Fleet Anti-Terrorism Security Team.
In 2009 he was assigned to 1st Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, NC and served as a Rifleman and Driver.
In 2012 he was assigned to Headquarters and Support Battalion at Camp Lejeune, NC and served as an on-the-job training Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Technician. He was then assigned to the Marine Detachment EOD School at Eglin Air Force Base, FL where he completed training for a lateral move into the EOD Technician field.
In 2013 he was assigned to 9th Engineer Support Battalion at Camp Hansan, Okinawa, Japan, and served as an EOD Technician and Operations Staff-Non Commissioned Officer in Charge.
In 2017 he was assigned to Combat Logistics Regiment-31 at Camp Hansan, Okinawa, Japan and served as an EOD Technician.
In 2018 he was assigned to Air Control Training Squadron at Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center, 29 Palms, CA, where he currently serves as an EOD Instructor.
His awards consist of the Navy Marine Achievement Medal and Combat Action Ribbon. He has deployed in support of OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM, contingency Anti-Terrorism operations, and the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit.
