Captain Mike “Drago” Miersma is the MV-22B Flight Leadership Standardization Evaluator Coordinator for Third Marine Aircraft Wing, located at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar. Hailing from Dallas, Texas, he graduated from the United States Naval Academy with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and commissioned in May 2010.
After graduating from The Basic School, he completed flight training and reported to his first command, VMM-161, located at MCAS Miramar. After completing a 15th MEU deployment with VMM-161, Captain Miersma joined VMM-363 and deployed two times to Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force – Crisis Response – Central Command (SPMAGTF-CR-CC) and flew missions in support of Operation INHERENT RESOLVE.
Captain Miersma is an MV-22B Weapons and Tactics Instructor (WTI) and a Flight Leadership Standardization Evaluator (FLSE) who’s personal awards include the Air Medal with Flight, Navy Commendation Medal, and the Naval Achievement Medal.
