    Description

The Department of Navy has articulated a firm commitment to make unmanned systems an important part of the Fleet and the Fleet Marine Forces. Studies commissioned by the Department envision large numbers of air, surface and subsurface unmanned vehicles operating alongside manned platforms.

While the Department of Navy has requested substantial funding for these unmanned platforms, Congress remains skeptical that the Navy and Marine Corps have a concept of operations (CONOPS) to actually employ the large number of unmanned platforms it desires to procure across the Future Years Defense Program and beyond.

This panel will discuss the CONOPS the Navy and Marine Corps are employing as increasing numbers of unmanned platforms are being used by operational forces today and will also address how the Sea Services will bring on increasing numbers of unmanned systems in the near- and mid-future.
