Lieutenant Colonel Maria Harley was commissioned in August 2008. Upon completion of The Basic School, she was designated a Communications Officer and attended Basic Communication Officers Course. Upon graduation from Comm School, she was assigned as the Communications Officer for Marine Wing Support Squadron 274 at MCAS Cherry Point, NC. While with MWSS-274 she deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and then again with Special Purpose MAGTF Southern Partnership Station (Amphibious) 2012. In May 2012, Lieutenant Colonel Harley transferred to Training and Education Command and was assigned as the Aide-de-Camp for the Commanding General for the next two years. From July 2014 to August 2015, Lieutenant Colonel Harley attended Expeditionary Warfare School and then the Advanced Communication Officers Course. From August 2015 to June 2018, Lieutenant Colonel Harley was assigned to 7th Communication Battalion where she served consecutively as Headquarters Company Commander, Bravo Company Commander, Operations Officer, and then Executive Officer. Lieutenant Colonel Harley attended Marine Corps Command and Staff College for the 2018-2019 school year. From June 2019 to June 2022, Lieutenant Colonel Harley served as the Commanding Officer for Recruiting Station San Antonio. From July 2022 to June 2024, Lieutenant Colonel Harley served as the Deputy, Assistant Chief of Staff G-6 for 1st Marine Division. In June 2024, Lieutenant Colonel Harley reported to 1st Marine Logistics Group where she currently serves as the Assistant Chief of Staff G-6.
Lieutenant Colonel Harley holds a Bachelors of Business Administration degree from The University of Texas at San Antonio, a Master’s of Science – Information Technology degree in Information Assurance from the University of Maryland, a Master’s of Science degree in Cyber Security Policy from the University of Maryland, and a Master’s of Military Studies degree from the Marine Corps Command and Staff College.
Her personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal with gold star, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with gold star and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with gold star.
She is married to Thomas Harley of Burbank, California.
